The 2004 edition of the Manual for Texas Depository Libraries
is intended for use by librarians at Texas publications depository
libraries. The Manual is a guide to the requirements of
the depository law for both depositories and the Texas State Library.
It provides information on the Texas State Publications Depository
Program's activities and interactions with depositories, explains
how materials are collected and distributed, describes methods for
processing, storing and maintaining materials in the collection,
instructs librarians on the retention and disposal of materials,
treats the issues of bibliographic and public access, and describes
resources and other finding aids for Texas documents. Appendices
follow the main text, providing forms, transcriptions of statutes
and regulations, a directory of depository libraries, and sample
disposal lists. It is a best practices guide for providing access
to Texas government publications at the local level.
