Promoting TexShare
TexShare, a statewide consortium of academic libraries,
public
libraries, and libraries of clinical medicine administered by the
Texas State Library and Archives Commission, employs traditional
and
innovative strategies to resource sharing. TexShare is founded on
the belief of Texas State officials and librarians that citizen
health and well being is furthered by efficient information exchange
in all communities and institutions where quality teaching, research
excellence, and lifelong learning are valued.
TexShare Databases
The TexShare Databases are electronic information
resources that
are authoritative, and ad free. The TexShare
Databases help to fulfill the information needs of all Texans. Using
the power of the Internet, the TexShare Databases are available
24
hours a day in the homes or offices of registered patrons of libraries
that participate in the program. It's like having a virtual library's
reference collection available on your computer desktop. Help spread
the word about this exciting program!
Getting the Word Out
It's often difficult to communicate to customers about
TexShare. Just what is an electronic database anyway? The
Texas State Library
and Archives Commission has resources to assist you in educating
customers about electronic databases, and TexShare in particular.
In this section, you will find print resources to
download, Web buttons and logos, sample press releases and opinion
articles, and resources from TexShare vendors. Use the links below
to download the new materials and print them on your library's printer.
The materials will help to raise awareness of the database resources
in your library.
NOTE: You will need the latest version of
Adobe Acrobat
Reader to view some of these files. The free reader can
be obtained at http://www.adobe.com.

the Library of Texas link to Access the TexShare Databases

Library of Texas - Another Option to
Retrieve Information From the TexShare Databases
We encourage all TexShare libraries to place the above link
to the Library of Texas from your current Web site. The following
text is provided for you to point to the graphic to use as a
link:
"<a href=http://LibraryofTexas.org><img src=http://lot.tsl.state.tx.us/doc/button.gif
alt=Library of Texas></a>".
The Library of Texas link allows libraries and library patrons
to obtain search results from multiple library catalogs, the
TexShare Databases, and other knowledge resources. Many search
results
from the TexShare Databases will include the full text of the
article, satisfying the information needs of the user right
away.
Libraries that have their computer I.P. addresses registered
at the Texas State Library can begin using this link and start
searching right away. Libraries that do not have I.P. addresses
registered can use their TexShare login I.D. and password to
login and start searching. Remote access for patrons is also
possible by giving eligible patrons the TexShare login I.D.
and password, or by using other remote access methods utilized
by different libraries.
Usage statistics will be sent to each participating library.
Send e-mail to databases@tsl.state.tx.us
for details on how to sign up for the Library of Texas service.
