OVERVIEW
OF THE LIBRARY OF TEXAS PROJECT
(April
2000 - August 2003)
The Library of Texas resource
sharing project
involved the Texas State Library and Archives Commission
and Texas academic and public libraries. The Library
of Texas Project strengthened Texas libraries by enhancing
the content, services, and resources available to
local libraries and their users.
Access
to Unlimited Information
The components of the Library of Texas Project provided
the framework to allow Texans to search diverse public
and academic library collections, retrieve descriptive
information, select materials, and request them through
interlibrary loan on the Library
of Texas search interface.
The Library of Texas Project vision includes:
Indexing and preserving electronic government documents
A statewide resource discovery service
Training librarians on electronic resources
Continuing
to offer a wide selection of TexShare databases
The Library of Texas Project established and enhanced
programs that strengthened the content, services,
and resources available to local libraries and their

Library of Texas
The Library
of Texas information search tool was developed
as part of the Library of Texas Project (April 2000
- August 2003). By
using the Internet, the Library
of Texas is like a virtual statewide library with
hundreds of electronic books, magazines, and journals
available, along with the capability of downloading
electronic documents and requesting print documents.
Texans, working through a participating library, have
access to unlimited information no matter where they
live in the state.

The Library
of Texas allows Texans to search diverse library
collections, online databases, and government information
through a single, simple interface. It provides libraries
