Partnering
for Permanent Public Access to State Agency Electronic
Publications
WHEREAS,
State agencies are now encouraged and/or required
to provide electronic access to critical agency
public information; and
WHEREAS, This public
information remains important for legal and historical
research after its immediate purpose is fulfilled;
and
WHEREAS, The existing
Texas State Library and Archives Commission network
of state depository libraries serves the research
needs of the public for print materials; therefore
be it
RESOLVED,
That the Texas Library Association encourages
the Texas State Library and Archives Commission
to facilitate the creation of inter-agency partnership
agreements between interested state depository
libraries and state agencies; and be it
RESOLVED,
That these partnerships be modeled after the U.S.
Government Printing Office's existing electronic
partnership program; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Texas Library Association seek legislation
at the next Texas Legislative session to ensure
that the Texas State Library and Archives Commission
be given authority to establish a co-operative
program to ensure permanent public access to important
state agency electronic publications.
