¡Sí Se Puede! Selecting Spanish Books for Adults
This web site was created as a result of the ¡Sí Se Puede! Selecting Spanish Books for Adults workshop series presented throughout Texas in 2004.This site supplements what was discussed during the workshops. It is a means to disseminate any additional resources and information that was exchanged at each workshop.

Programa de Libros que Hablan
Link to the Talking Book Program web site in Spanish. This program provides free library services to Texans who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical, or reading disabilities - whether permanent or temporary.

El día de los niños/ El día de los libros
Activities, bookmarks, lists of resources, and original audio files of popular childrens' songs in Spanish for this celebration of childhood and bilingual literacy.

El día de los niños/ El día de los libros
This program, which is a celebration of childhood and bilingual literacy, began in 1997 under the leadership of author Pat Mora, who joined forces with REFORMA to bring attention to family literacy and to focus on children. Hosted by the Texas Library Association, this web site includes a press kit, a tool kit, graphics, and links to additional resources.

Webjunction's Spanish Speakers Resources
This area of WebJunction offers resources for serving Spanish-speaking patrons including research, outreach management tools, information and resources in Spanish for use with patrons, tools for increasing access to technology, and a link to WebJunction's Spanish Language Outreach Program -- a growing community of practice associated with serving the needs of Spanish speakers.

REFORMA - ALA affiliated national association committed to the improvement of library and information services for the Spanish-speaking and Latino people in the United States.

SOL - Spanish In Our Libraries - an electronic newsletter which connects librarians who serve Spanish speakers

PLUS - Public Libraries Using Spanish (SOL's sister site) - provides wonderful resources that can help you make your library a more welcoming place for Spanish speakers.

Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) - the association's recommended list of Chinese-American authors

Asia Resources on the World Wide Web - Association for Asian Studies - a list of Asian online resources first published in the Asian Studies Newsletter. Contains links to numerous newspapers and magazines and much more.

The Council on East Asian Libraries - Committee on Korean Materials - Subject Guides to Korean Internet Resources - an extensive collection of Korean links to a wide variety of subjects.

North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources - Collection Development Publisher Catalogs - geared towards academic Japanese Studies librarians, but might be helpful to others. See the entire workbook at http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~ncc/workbook.html.

Multilingual

Collecting in World Languages: Resources for Building Your Multilingual Collection - a list made available by Library Journal of over 80 vendors that deal with materials in languages from around the world

WebJunction's Tribal and First Nation Libraries - WebJunction's resources on services to indigenous communities.

WebJunction's Services to Immigrants - great resources for libraries to help them better service immigrants.

WESSWeb - a collection of links provided by the ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) and WESS (Western European Studies Section) of multilingual vendors. Geared towards academics.

Multicultural Communities Guidelines for Library Services - These are guidelines compiled by the Library Services to Multicultural Populations an IFLA committee to provide standardization on library services for multicultural communities.

New York Library Association - Ethnic Services Round Table (ESRT) - a fabulous collection of bibliographies of multiethnic materials.

Literacy

National Institute for Literacy - authorized by the U.S. Congress under two laws, the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) in the Workforce Investment Act and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) to help strenghthen literacy programs.

LINCSearch - an online database provided by the National Institute for Literacy. LINCSearch is a national cooperative effort for adult and family literacy programs.

Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy & Learning (TCALL) - If you want to find out about Texas literacy projects, organizations, and an impressive clearinghouse of literacy resources you will want to bookmark this site.

Disabilities

Transforming Libraries - Service to Users with Disabilities - Read how academic libraries are addressing providing services to users with disabilities.

ADA Accessibility Guidelines - New design guidelines that cover access for people with disabilities under the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. The guidelines update access requirements for a wide range of facilities in the public and private sectors covered by the law.

Seniors

Serving Seniors: A Resource Manual for Missouri Libraries - a manual designed to help Missouri libraries address services to senior citizens. See Chapter 10 of the manual for a list of helpful resources.

Library Services to an Aging Population - Reference and User Services Association - a collection of helpful web sites that may be of interest to senior citizens.

Correctional Facilities

Directory of State Prison Librarians - a directory developed for the purpose of improving communication between the often-isolated librarians working in state correctional libraries and to serve as a resource and networking aid.
