Public Library Directory and Statistics

ID numbers have been assigned to each library as a unique indentifier. Branches are associated with their main libraries based on these ID numbers. Each branch has it's own unique ID number, but the first ID is that of the main library.

SYSTEM affiliations are indicated merely as a geographic locator for the library. It does not signify a membership association with one of the ten library systems throughout the state. These systems are located as follows:

  • BCLS - Big Country Library System, Abilene
  • TPLS - Texas Panhandle Library System, Amarillo
  • CTLS - Central Texas Library System, Austin
  • STLS - South Texas Library System, Corpus Christi
  • TTPLS - Texas Trans-Pecos Library System, El Paso
  • NTRLS - North Texas Regional Library System, Fort Worth
  • NETLS - Northeast Texas Library System, Garland
  • HALS - Houston Area Library System, Houston
  • WTLS - West Texas Library System, Lubbock
  • AALS - Alamo Area Library System, San Antonio

MEMBER - indicates whether the library is currently a member of the Texas Library System. This library has met the accreditation standards for the current state fiscal year (September through August). M--signifies member; N--signifies non-member; O--signifies that it does not meet the definition of a public library.

POP - is the population that has been assigned by the Texas State Library according to the Rules for Administering the Library Systems Act. Please note: This population figure does not necessarily reflect the population of the location of the library. Libraries that have not been assigned population do not meet the legal definition of a public library in the state of Texas.
