Inclusion on this list should not be interpreted as an endorsement by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. To the best of our knowledge, this information was correct as of December 1999. Library of Congress: http://lcweb.loc.gov/z3950: While the Library of Congress doesn't provide ReCon services any longer, their entire database is accessible and free for downloading to any library by using the Z39.50 protocol. If your automated system isn't Z39.50 compliant, you can search their database through the web and records may be viewed in a MARC tagged display. Doing your own ReCon in-house is a viable option if you can extend the ReCon project over a long period of time or if you have a large pool of manpower to draw upon.; The web address is a web based Gateway to not only the Library of Congress but a large number of other large libraries accessible through the Z39.50 protocol.
