TLA RESOLUTION FOR SUPPORT OF THE TEXAS Z39.50 IMPLEMENTORS

WHEREAS
The Z39.50 Information Retrieval Protocol (ANSI/NISO Z39.50/ISO 23950)
is intended to support search and retrieval of information among libraries,
thus providing library patrons, staff, and administration with greater
access to resources and maximizing the utility of existing information
systems or consortia; and
WHEREAS
the Texas Z39.50 Implementors Group (TZIG), consisting of volunteers
from state, public, academic, school, and special libraries, and Z39.50
product vendors and developers, felt the need to develop a subset of
the specifications for use by library staff as Z39.50 is implemented
in Texas; and
WHEREAS
the Z Texas Profile is intended to be aligned with and is being accepted
as a basis for the international Z39.50 profile for library systems
applications currently being discussed; and
WHEREAS
the TZIG Project goals include improving and broadening Texas citizens'
access to networked information, improving Texas Librarian's understanding
and use of Z39.50 products, and establishing one possible technical
foundation for future sharing of the information assets of Texas; therefore
be it
BE IT RESOLVED
That the Texas Library Association endorses the Z Texas Profile and
the efforts of the Texas Z39.50 Implementors Group (TZIG) to continue
to develop and publicize the Z Texas Profile to the vendor and library
community.
