Texas
Texas Library Association (TLA)
The Texas Library Association was established in 1902 to promote and improve
library services in Texas. Membership includes academic, special, public
and school librarians, interested lay people, library board members and
vendors of library products.
College and University Libraries
Division (CULD)
A division of the Texas Library Association that promotes the interests
of libraries and librarians in four year universities and community colleges
throughout Texas.
Public Library Division (PLD)
A division of the Texas Library Association that promotes library services
and librarianship in public libraries in Texas.
Texas Association of School
Librarians (TASL)
A division of the Texas Library Association that promotes library services
and librarianship in school libraries in Texas and cooperates in the promotion
of general and joint enterprises with the Texas Library Association.
Border Regional Library Association (BRLA)
Since 1966 the BRLA has worked to promote library service and librarianship
in the El Paso/Las Cruces/Juarez metroplex. Current membership includes
librarians, paraprofessionals, media specialists and library friends and
trustees from all types of libraries in the region. This is a non-profit
organization.
Texas Council of Community / Junior
College Librarians (TCCJCL)
This is an organization of library directors of state-supported
community colleges. Its purpose is to advance the interests of state-supported
community/junior college libraries in Texas. An annual meeting is held
in Austin each September/October.
Texas Municipal League (TML Online)
TML Online is designed to provide Texas Municipal League members with
another option to keep informed about league programs and services and
access key state and federal agencies, as well as other city officials
in Texas.
Education
Technology Coordinating Council
The ETCC was established to represent the interests of both the State
of Texas and of state agencies and institutions of higher education, to
ensure the cooperation and coordination of the state’s efforts in
the implementation of educational technology initiatives.

American Library Association (ALA)
ALA provides leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement
of library and information services and the profession of librarianship
in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.
Association for Library and Information
Science Education (ALISE)
A nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote excellence in research,
teaching and service for library and information science education.
Association for Library Service to
Children (ASLC)
A division of the American Library Association whose mission is to support
the profession of children's librarianship by enabling and encouraging
its practitioners to provide the best library services to our nation's
children.
American Association of School Librarians
(AASL)
A division of the American Library Association created to advocate excellence,
facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library media field.
Association of Specialized and Cooperative
Library Agencies (ASCLA)
A division of the American Library Association that represents state library
agencies, specialized library agencies, independent libraries and multitype
library cooperatives.
Library Administration and Management Association
(LAMA)
A division of the American Library Association that provides an organizational
framework for encouraging the study of administrative theory, for improving
the practice of administration in libraries and for identifying and fostering
administrative skill.
Library and Information Technology Association
(LITA)
Develops and disseminates best practice guidelines for a broad membership
including new professionals systems librarians, library administrators
and vendors.
Public Library Association (PLA)
A division of the American Library Association whose purpose is to advance
the development and effectiveness of public library service and public
librarians.
REFORMA
National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos
and the Spanish-Speaking. An Affiliate of the American Library Association.
Special Libraries Association (SLA)
A division of the American Library Association dedicated to the education
and professional development of librarians employed most frequently by
corporations, private businesses, government agencies, museums, colleges,
hospitals, associations and information management consulting firms.
Young Adult Library
Services Association (YALSA)
A division of the American Library Association that advocates extensive
and developmentally appropriate library and information services for young
adults, ages 12-18.

ALAWON
(ALA-Washington Newsline)
A free, irregular e-mail publication of the ALA Washington Office providing
the latest news on legislation affecting American libraries.
ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom
(ALAOIF)
The goal of the office is to educate librarians and the general public
about the nature and importance of intellectual freedom in libraries.
Online publications include the Library Bill of Rights, Intellectual
Freedom Policies and Guidelines and information about frequently challenged
library materials.
Journal Holdings in the Library
Science Collection
A listing of our subscriptions to over 120 journal titles in the field
of library and information science.
Library Developments
The newsletter of the Library Development Division of the Texas State
Library and Archives Commission. This bimonthly publication includes grant
announcements, continuing education opportunities and new titles in the
Library Science Collection.
Texas Library Journal
The official membership publication of the Texas Library Association,
published four times annually.
TLA Texline
An online publication of the Texas Library Association intended to inform
members of late breaking news of interest to Texas libraries from the
Texas Legislature, Texas state agencies and other other governmental entities.
Texline appears irregularly as needed and will appear more frequently
during legislative sessions.

information, strategies and efforts targeting solutions by building open,
cross-industry discussion about the digital divide.
Internet Use in Public
Libraries (PUBLIB-NET)
A subset of PUBLIB that includes only those posts related to Internet
use and issues in public libraries.

Reference List (LibRef-L)
Discussion list for general reference services topics hosted by Kent State
University.
LM_NET
A moderated discussion group open to school library media specialists
worldwide, and to people involved with the school library media field.
It is not for general librarians or educators.
Public Libraries (PUBLIB)
An electronic discussion list for public librarians and those interested
in public libraries.
Public Libraries, Young Adults
and Children (PUBYAC)
A discussion list for children and young adult services in public libraries
focusing on programming ideas, outreach and literacy programs for children
and caregivers, censorship and policy issues, collection development,
administrative considerations, puppetry, job openings, professional development
and other pertinent services and issues.
STUMPERS-L
Sponsored by the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at
Dominican University, Stumpers-L was founded as an email-based resource
where reference librarians can help each other find the answers to difficult
reference questions.
SUNLINK Weed of the Month
Club
Originally created for Florida school library media specialists, this
site provides guidelines and suggestions for weeding library collections
and for adding quality materials. The original project idea and specific
suggestions were provided media specialists via LM_NET.

This commercial web site provides an index to over 10,000 libraries around
the world.
