Coke R. Stevenson

At times Coke Robert Stevenson seemed like a man from an earlier age. Born in Mason County in a log cabin, Stevenson grew up in Junction. He was named after Methodist bishop Thomas Coke. Stevenson attended school for only seven years of three-month school terms. As a teenager he went into business hauling freight between Junction and Brady, studying history and bookkeeping on his own by campfire light. He went to work as a janitor for Junction State Bank, eventually working his way up to cashier and studying law at night. In 1913 he passed the bar, and entered politics the following year.
