Anson Jones

Anson Jones threw off
the failures of his early life to become one of the most
essential leaders of early Texas, a master diplomat who
guided Texas to annexation as the 28th state in the Union.
Ironically, the triumph of annexation ended in personal
ruin for Jones, and his final years were ones of bitterness
and tragedy.
