Centennial Kickoff Press Conference
Austin, Texas - Texas Capitol (South Steps) - Noon to 1 p.m.
Cake, party favors and the release of logos, themes and calendar of Centennial events. The public and invited guests are welcomed at the south steps of the Capitol to celebrate the actual date that Governor Thomas Campbell signed the bill creating the Texas Library and Historical Commission, now the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Media kits and TSLAC informational materials to be distributed.

Friends of Libraries and Archives of Texas Program at the Texas Library Association 2009 Annual Conference
George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas 10:15 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.
Dr. David B. Gracy, the Governor Bill Daniel Professor in Archival Enterprise at the University of Texas at Austin, School of Information and two of his colleagues, Pamela Bleisch (Center for American History) and Carol Waggener (University of Wyoming), have agreed to reprise a panel program moderated by State Librarian Peggy D. Rudd and presented at the March 2008 meeting of the Texas State Historical Association. The program focuses on aspects of the history of the commission.

History of the Commission Book Release / Author Speaks
Austin, Texas – Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives Building
Dr. David B. Gracy, the Governor Bill Daniel Professor in Archival Enterprise at the University of Texas at Austin, School of Information, has contracted with UT Press to publish a history of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The Friends of Libraries and Archives of Texas supported this effort by administering a Summerlee Foundation grant to fund research on the topic. Dr. Gracy submitted the manuscript to the publisher in fall 2008, with publication scheduled for fall or winter 2009. A book release party will be held in the lobby of the Zavala building. Gracy may give a prepared lecture, attendees can meet the author and he will autograph copies of the book.
